Final birthdays of 2011!

Happy Birthday to Jeffrey Bunker!
Jeff has been my favorite, witty, funny friend forever and ever.
No one can make me laugh harder than Jeff.
He is universally loved by everyone (seriously everyone!)
and I am always so proud to claim him as my friend.

And...
Happy Birthday Sadie!
Sadie and I have been friends our entire lives.
We were pretty much raised under the same roof.
From dance, to tennis, to lake powell, to sun valley...our favorites are the same.
Sadie is probably the most fun person I know. Every time I'm with her we just laugh and laugh.
I am very lucky to have Sadie. She is the best through and through.

Happy Birthday to my two favorite funny friends!

xoxo

mele kalikimaka!

Hawaii in December.
There is nothing that tops that.
We had the best time over at our Home Sweet Hawaii.
Beaching it every day, tennis, reading, relaxing, eating, and sleeping.
That is my kind of life.
If I could have it my way I would be spending every Christmas on the islands from now on...

Birthday girls!

Happy Birthday to my dear sister Allie!
We got to celebrate her birthday in Hawaii this year...lucky duck!
Allie is the most positive person I know.
She is my best example of always putting on a smile!
I love you Al! Hope the day was great!

 And....
Happy Birthday to my beautiful Maria!
I don't what I would do without this dear friend.
She makes stressful times seem less stressful and is always lending a listening ear.
Everyone wants to count themselves as Maria's friend because she is truly the best!
I am so lucky to have her!

xoxo you two!!

Happy Birthday Abby-gail!

Happy Birthday Abs!
If you are a friend of Abby's I wouldn't be surprised.
She is the kindest, warmest, most genuine girl around.
Not one bad thing has every been said about this girl.
She seriously has a heart of gold and I love her dearly.
I hope NYC has treated her well on this day of birth.

Happy Birthday to my beautiful Annerz!
She is one of the best people I know. Truly.
I thank my lucky stars every day for that fateful day over 2 years ago
when we met in London.
Since then my life has been happier, funnier, brighter, and better.
All thanks to Ann.
Today she joins club 22 and I couldn't be happier about it.

Love you Annerz.

thankful for NYC.

I got to spend my Thanksgiving in NYC with my sister, my best friend and her husband.
It does not get much better than that.
We had a bird's eye view of the Macy's Day Parade,
saw the Rockettes, visited Times Square,
strolled through Central Park,
and after three attempts drank frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity.

I am so grateful that I got to see Carli, Catherine, and Preston.
I have missed all of their presences in my life!
They make me so happy and I am so thankful to have spent my Thanksgiving with them!

Happy Birthday Cath!

Happy birthday to my beautiful, wonderful friend Catherine.
She turns 22 today!
This is the first time I am not there to celebrate her birthday with her.
However, I know that her parents and husband are taking good care of her.

Catherine is the most amazing friend.
She has been my other half for a long time.
And even though she lives in NYC now, I'm not worried about us.
We will always always be Sue and Gladys.
I love you Cath! Happy Birthday.

Time to perform, dance, perform, and dance!
Three months of rehearsing and we made it to Opening Night!
I am so proud of our company!

the universe is smart.

"In life, people tend to wait for good things to come to them, and by waiting, they miss out. Usually what you wish for doesn’t fall in your lap, it falls somewhere nearby and you have to recognize it, stand up, and put the time and work it takes to get it. This isn’t because the universe is cruel, it’s because the universe is smart. It has its own cat-string theory and knows we don’t appreciate things that fall into our lap."

It's a long one, but worth it.

Date A Girl Who Reads
Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.
Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.
She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.
Buy her another cup of coffee.
Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent.  Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.
It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas and for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.
She has to give it a shot somehow.
Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.
Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.
Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.
If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.
You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.
You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.
Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.
Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

I am in love with this.
Thanks for sharing Maria.
